most recent action plan, the focus was on being and becoming “green.”  The Greening of the Sector has so many meanings, from using energy efficient light bulbs and windows to developing and building green structures. Going green can mean shopping locally and eating locally grown food. Being green involves learning more about the green-spaces, green-assets and “green-scapes” all around Sector 6.

Rediscover Your Neighborhood
Saturday September 19th, 2009 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM
Genesee Valley Park – Roundhouse

Registration begins at 8:30 AM, followed by the keynote speaker and round table discussion. There will be morning and afternoon guided tours of some of Sector 6’s greatest assets: Genesee Valley Park, Highland Park, Genesee River (by canoe), Erie Canal Towpath (by bike, please bring your own), U of R Arboretum, Mt. Hope Cemetery, community gardens, a solar powered home, and a LEED certified building.

  • Transportation to and from the tours will be provided.
  • Enjoy lunch, courtesy of the University of Rochester, featuring food from a variety of local restaurants.
  • Visit the exhibition tables and discuss sustainability with experts from various green organizations.
  • Shop with vendors from the South Wedge Farmers Market.This event is free, thanks to the generous support of the Monroe County Parks Department, The City of Rochester, the University of Rochester and NBN Sector 6.
