December 30th, 2009
We received a report of a Monday Dec 28th Break-in in the 300 Block of Linden Street.
We live on Linden Street and yesterday our home was broken into and many things stolen, I also understand that someone on Caroline was also hit. People living in the neighborhood should be extra careful – In our case they threw a hammer through the kitchen window to gain entry. Happened while I was at work.
So let folks know if they have alarm systems – set them. If they work during the day – leave radios and tv’s on.
- <This incident> happened on a Monday (from what I understand that is a common day of the week for these occurrences)
- the weather was bad – also common
- <Robbers> came in through the kitchen (through a hammer through the window) window which is protected from side of the street

Scam Artist Alert (Press to Download Complete Alert from RPD with Picture)
Gregory John Smith, 45 years of age, 5’ 9”, 185 lbs.
The Rochester Police Dept. has received information that the above subject is
actively trying to scam citizens throughout the South East neighborhoods. Smith
approaches people at their residence or on the street asking for a ride to his car,
which he claims is disabled. He usually says he is from out of town (Buffalo) and
not familiar with Rochester. Once Smith gets into the persons car, he asks for gas
money or to be driven to an ATM. On at least one occasion he has tried to get a
person to cash a bad check for him. Several of these encounters have resulted in
Smith stealing money directly from the person’s purse or wallet.
If you encounter this individual, do not give him money or assistance! Call 911
immediately to report the incident. Inform the 911 operator and responding
Officers of Smith’s last direction of travel, clothing description and vehicle
description. Do not follow or try to detain this individual.
Contact a CPO at the NSC office number above with questions or further information.
